Softness, Breathability, and Absorbency of Bamboo

Bamboo fiber is filled with micro-gaps, allowing it to absorb and release moisture rapidly. It provides warmth in cold weather and a cooling sensation in warm weather. Thanks to its round and smooth fibers, it feels silky-soft against the skin and retains its plushness wash after wash. Bamboo children's clothing is a top choice for those with sensory sensitivities!

Is bamboo an eco-friendly material?

As a plant, bamboo is highly ecological. The bamboo we use is grown on eco-farms and does not deplete the food source of pandas. Bamboo can grow up to a meter per day without the need for fertilizers, pesticides, or significant irrigation. It is one of the world's fastest-growing renewable resources, sequestering five times as much carbon dioxide as a tree of similar size.

Production of Bamboo Viscose Fabric

Processing the bamboo plant into bamboo viscose does require some chemicals, which affects the fabric's overall ecological footprint. The fiber is produced by dissolving bamboo into cellulose—similar to the viscose process—meaning the manufacturing is not entirely chemical-free.

Our bamboo fabrics are Öko-Tex® Standard 100 certified, ensuring no harmful chemicals are used in the dyeing or finishing processes.

Alternatives to Bamboo

TENCEL™ fabrics are made from FSC-certified eucalyptus wood in a closed-loop production process, requiring significantly fewer chemicals than traditional viscose. Read more on our blog: Why TENCEL™ jersey is an ecological and soft choice.

Sewing Projects with Bamboo

Sewing with bamboo knits is easy with the right patterns and fresh needles. For loose-knit patterned bamboo, use a Jersey SUK ballpoint needle and a slim-fit underwear pattern. If you are sewing cloth diapers with bamboo stretch terry as the inner lining, we recommend a Microtex needle (also used for PUL fabrics).

Ecological Hemp Fabrics for Cloth Diapers

Hemp is a highly absorbent material, making it ideal for cloth diapers. You can also sew durable, washable dishcloths from hemp. A slightly textured hemp stretch terry cloth is perfect for scrubbing surfaces without scratching, and unlike basic cloths, it won’t develop odors.

Tip for reusable menstrual products: Research shows that hemp-based absorbent layers help keep the vaginal flora healthy and balanced.

Environmentally Friendly Hemp

Hemp requires very little fertilizer and no pesticides or artificial irrigation to grow. It is a high-yield, carbon-sequestering crop often used in crop rotation to keep the soil nutrient-rich. Transforming hemp fiber into yarn is a mechanical process involving steam softening, requiring no harsh chemicals.
