How to wash period panties

Period panties are a practical and ecological alternative to disposable menstrual products. They are easy to use, and with the right washing routine, they stay fresh and functional for a long time.
When properly cared for, our period underwear lasts for years, offering a comfortable and reliable sustainable option. These instructions also apply to the care of washable Myllymuksut cloth-pads.
Washing Instructions for Period Panties
1. A quick rinse before machine washing.
After use, rinse the panties with cold water until the water runs clear. This prevents stains from setting and makes machine washing more effective. Do not use hot water, as heat sets blood stains into the fabric.
2. Machine Washing
Myllymuksut panties can be machine-washed at 60°C with your regular laundry. Wash them in plenty of water and avoid overfilling the machine to ensure no detergent residue is left behind. Use standard mild detergents that do not contain bleach.
3. Can I use Fabric Softener?
Avoid using fabric softener, as it can decrease the absorbency of the panties and weaken the fabric fibers over time. A splash of laundry vinegar is a great alternative to keep your laundry fresh.
4. Drying
Line dry your period panties and hang them inside out to speed up the drying process. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can fade the colors. Do not tumble dry, as it causes unnecessary wear on the fibers.
- Pro-tip: If your Myllymuksut panties accidentally end up in the dryer on low heat once or twice, don't worry—they won't be ruined. Just make sure it doesn't become a habit!

Tips for Using Period Underwear
-
Travel bags or "wetbags" are handy if you need to change your panties at work or while traveling. They keep the used products hygienic and easy to handle.
-
A mesh laundry bag is a convenient place to store rinsed panties while they wait for the next wash cycle.
Properly cared for, period panties will last for years. They are a comfortable, eco-friendly alternative that makes your daily routine smoother and more sustainable.
