Linen Fabrics - natural quality for every occasion
Linen is one of the oldest and most esteemed natural fibers, renowned specifically for its breathability, durability, and timeless aesthetic. Natural linen softens with use and stands the test of time—just like great design always does.
Why choose linen?
- Keeps you cool in the summer and allows air to circulate.
- Feels dry against the skin and does not feel clammy or sweaty.
- Withstands heavy use, wear, and frequent washing.
- Linen only gets better and softer the more it is used.
- One of the most eco-friendly natural fibers available.
Linen is particularly loved for clothing because it feels comfortably dry against the skin and does not feel stuffy, even in warm conditions. It is anti-static, dries quickly, and is naturally antibacterial—making it an excellent choice for kitchen and bath textiles as well.
Linen is not only an ecological choice but also an elegant one for lovers of natural materials. When you want to sew sustainable, high-quality clothing or home textiles, choose linen.

High-Quality and Durable Linen Fabrics by Myllymuksut
The popularity of linen textiles is based on a material that naturally excels in various uses. Its natural origin makes it an ecological and sustainable material, suitable for everything from summer dresses to home interior textiles.
Ecologically, linen is one of the best natural materials available. The plant requires very little water, grows without large amounts of fertilizer, and the entire fiber can be utilized. Our collection features several different qualities, each suited for different purposes.
Linen Knit and Linen Waffle
Timeless linen knits and linen jerseys are versatile options for many sewing projects. Linen knit and linen waffle are summer essentials—stretchy options perfect for soft, airy garments:
- Tops and T-shirts
- Cardigans
- Scarves and ponchos
- Linen waffle bathrobes and towels
Ramie – A Thick, Sturdy, and Timeless Linen Quality
When you need a fabric with more structure, try Ramie! This quality is opaque and has a slightly firmer feel. Our stonewashed linen (ramie) has been a top favorite year after year for projects such as:
- Jackets
- Trousers
- Cushion covers and structured interior textiles
Light Linens – A Breath of Natural Beauty
The mélange-style Oscar is a beautiful, light, and airy linen quality. In mélange fabrics, the warp and weft threads have slightly different shades, giving the linen a vibrant, textured surface. Our most popular quality for clothing is Ester, a solid-colored linen. These qualities are ideal for:
- Summer dresses and tunics
- Loose linen trousers
- Shirts and kaftans
- Home decor, such as curtains
Patterned and Striped Linen Fabrics
Our patterned linen fabrics are perfect for both interior design and apparel. Printed and digital print linens bring a personal touch to clothes and home textiles. The striped Nordica linen is a consistently timeless choice. In addition to clothing, use patterned linens for:
- Linen tote bags and pouches
- Tablecloths and table runners
- Cushion covers
Caring for Linen Fabric
Linen is an easy-care material when handled correctly. Remove stains while they are fresh and let the air do the work: linen dries quickly and smooths out during use.
- Wash at 40–60°C, do not use bleach.
- Wash in a loosely packed machine to keep the linen naturally smoother.
- Use a light spin cycle only; hang to dry on a line or a hanger.
- Tumble drying is not recommended for linen.
- Iron while slightly damp on the reverse side.
Should I wash linen fabrics before sewing?
Linen is a natural material that typically shrinks in the wash. The amount of shrinkage varies by fabric type but is generally 5–10% during the first wash. We recommend washing your linen fabric before cutting.
Tips for Sewing Linen
- Use Universal needles (size 60–80, depending on fabric thickness).
- Linen frays easily; edges should be finished with a serger (overlocker).
- We recommend using fusible interfacing for necklines and facings.
- A Prym mini iron is a handy companion during various sewing stages.
- Note: Patterns designed for jersey/knit fabrics are not suitable for non-stretch woven linen.
