What is merino wool?
Merino wool is the wool of merino sheep, which differs from regular wool due to its thinner and finer fiber structure. Domestic merino wool knitwear is made from merino yarn with a thickness of 19.5 microns. This means a very smooth and fine fiber, which is why merino wool fabric does not itch like regular wool.
The natural fiber fabric is breathable and heat-insulating. Wool wicks moisture away from the skin, yet feels dry against the skin. This is why merino is a popular material for sportswear, outdoor clothing, children's clothing, and underwear. Itch-free and naturally antibacterial, merino wool is also perfect for babies, children, and those with sensitive skin.

Benefits and properties of merino wool
The popularity of merino wool is based on its unique properties, which include breathability, moisture retention, and dirt repellency. Wool absorbs 30-40% of its weight in moisture without feeling damp. Our merino wool still contains natural wool grease, i.e. lanolin.
- Merino wool regulates heat naturally, warming you up when it's cool and cooling you down when it's hot
- The material adapts to your body temperature to keep you comfortable all day long
- The fine fiber makes it skin-friendly and non-itchy. Suitable for babies, children, and adults with sensitive skin.
- Antibacterial wool repels bacteria and doesn't absorb odors like synthetic fibers
- Easy to care for, often just airing is enough to clean the garment
- A long-lasting and ecological natural material that lasts for years
Merino wool care instructions
Caring for merino wool is easy if you remember a few basic things. Merino wool rarely needs washing, as wool naturally repels dirt and odors. The most important maintenance measure for merino wool clothing is airing, which reduces the need for washing and extends its lifespan.
When washing is necessary, use a wool detergent and select a gentle wool wash program. Avoid strong spins and high temperatures. Tumble drying is not suitable for wool, and the best way to dry it is to dry it flat, which will allow the fabric to retain its shape and properties. When cared for properly, merino wool clothing will remain beautiful and usable for years.
Storing merino wool fabrics and clothing
Wool fabrics and finished merino wool clothing should be stored loosely folded and protected from pests in a resealable bag or a plastic container.
