Cotton velour is a great choice when you want to sew high-quality, soft, and long-lasting clothes for children or the whole family. The soft and luxurious-feeling velour combines a velvety surface with excellent durability.
Classic velour fabric is a favourite for many, especially for baby and children's clothes, as well as various types of loungewear. The cheerful colour options inspire sewing projects for all kinds of garments.
Tips for sewing cotton velour:
Needle recommendation: Jersey ballpoint needle or Stretch needle.
Sewing a zipper into elastic material: Use support tape (or interlining) under the zipper to strengthen and support the fabric. The tape prevents the fabric from waving (rippling), makes sewing the zipper easier, and provides a sturdier fastening surface.
Check the nap direction! Velour has a napped surface that reflects light differently from various directions. Place the patterns and cut all pieces in the same nap direction so the colour of the finished garment looks even. You get a deeper colour by cutting the nap upwards, and a softer and lighter shade by cutting the nap downwards.
