Merino wool is long-fibered and curly, and it retains its softness particularly well during spinning. What does mulesing mean?

Mulesing is a surgical procedure performed on merino sheep, where the merino sheep’s skin folds around the anus are cut. The procedure is painful, as usually it is done without anesthesia. The resulting scar tissue reduces the problems caused by parasitic flies, who would otherwise dig their way into the skin folds laying eggs and eating the flesh of the sheep. Flies cause problems, especially in warm conditions, and mulesing treatment is commonly used in Australia. In Europe and New Zealand, mulesing is prohibited. Are fabrics of the same color name really the same color?

Are patterned and plain fabrics the same shade? Color names used in the same material match. The knitted fabrics, plain and patterned, use the same batch of yarn, so the shades match perfectly. It is not unheard of that there are color differences between batches, so fabrics purchased at different times may have slight differences. If necessary, you can ask and confirm the matching of the fabric colors and purchase samples.

What should be considered when sewing merino wool?

Flexible merino wool can be sewn like a jersey or stretchy sweatshirt knit with an overlock machine or with a sewing machine's flexible stitch. As a needle, you should choose a Jersey needle with a round tip. With very flexible merino wool, you should make sure that the stitch is flexible enough so that it does not tighten and break during use. Merino wool does not shrink significantly when washing by hand or when washing with the delicate 30C wool program in a machine. Merino wool is very stretchy and in jumpers and cardigans, it may be necessary to support the shoulder seams with an additional support tape.

What sewing patterns can be used for merino wool?

You can use knitwear patterns for merino wool or actual patterns designed for merino wool. If you want to make body-hugging underwear, use a smaller size, i.e. you can make the width one or two sizes smaller, keep the length the same, or even add a few centimeters more. Merino wool clothing is very flexible, and a garment made with the pattern of a tricot garment can feel loose. However, the merino wool stretches sideways at the price of reducing the length, so you can add a few centimeters to the sleeves and legs as well as the waist. It's great to wrap up in a merino wool jacket or scarf when the cold weather hits. Merino wool base layer is a moisture-wicking and temperature-equalizing choice for outdoor sports and camping. It's easy to make tube scarves out of merino wool tubular rib, while patterned merino wool fabrics and merino wool single are suitable for clothes and other accessories. When making merino wool items, you can use tubular rib or thin merino wool knit as edging. The garment made of merino wool fabric is stretchy, soft, and warm, yet thin enough to fit underneath your main clothes. Of course, you can wear it as-is, too. Washing merino wool fabrics

Merino wool rarely needs washing, as merino wool naturally repels dirt and odors. The best and most important maintenance for merino wool clothes is airing out. Merino wool has the ability to clean itself in fresh air, which reduces the need for washing. If necessary, wash by hand or with a gentle wool washing program.
