What is TENCEL™ jersey knit?

TENCEL™ lyocell jersey knit is luxuriously soft, making anyone purr with satisfaction. This breathable and beautifully draping stretch fabric is perfect for tops, dresses, and leggings. It is responsibly produced from eucalyptus trees and is a good choice for both your skin and the environment. Tencel jersey knit combines comfort and ethics without compromise, as the fabric is durable and feels luxurious wash after wash. Tencel fabrics have a subtle, silky sheen, and the colors are beautifully deep. The fabric surface is smooth and does not pill or fuzz even with heavy use.

What is twill fabric?

The TENCEL™ twill in our selection is an ecological, silk-like, non-stretchy fabric that drapes exceptionally well. Like our other TENCEL™ fabrics, the twill fabric is also made from genuine ecological fiber produced by Lenzing. The feel of twill fabric on the skin is luxuriously smooth, making it a perfect choice for formal wear as a silk alternative.

What is ECOVERO™?

Lenzing ECOVERO™ is a new generation of viscose that maximizes resource efficiency and minimizes environmental impact. ECOVERO™ viscose is produced responsibly from FSC-certified wood raw material. The fiber saves water and reduces carbon dioxide emissions by up to 50% compared to conventional viscose. Responsibly produced viscose jersey knits and fabrics are high-quality and ecological alternatives to all traditional viscose-based fabrics.

Tips for sewing TENCEL™ jersey knit

Myllymuksut TENCEL™ jersey knit is a very high-quality single knit with elastane. The jersey knit weights 270 g/m², making it durable and suitable for sewing everything from underwear to leggings. Our TENCEL™ jersey knit does not need to be ironed. Use high-quality jersey needles and good yarn. Thanks to its excellent elasticity, you don't need to add extra seam allowance to tried-and-true patterns.

When sewing a women's dress or tunic with pockets, we recommend placing the pocket about 1 cm higher than with thinner cotton jersey knit, as due to its substantial weight and drape, the pocket will hang slightly lower than usual. The width of TENCEL™ jersey knit is approx. 165 cm, often even a little more, so you can make most basic garments from one width. Our customer service is happy to help you if you need assistance with sewing TENCEL™ lyocell jersey knit or any other matter you may be wondering about.

The best tips for sewing stretch fabrics

Use stretch stitches on your sewing machine and finish edges with a zigzag stitch if you don't have a serger. Investing in the right needle is worthwhile for achieving a good stitch and avoiding skipped stitches. High-quality sewing thread will not break and will withstand stress at the seams. Do not stretch the fabric while sewing; it should feed through the machine without being pulled. However, if the seam ripples, check the presser foot pressure on your machine and the differential feed settings on your serger. For the best results, always test your machine settings on a separate scrap of fabric before starting to sew.
